Did cortical remapping lend artist a hand?
نویسنده
چکیده
This study was possible thanks to a large number of photographers documenting the common guillemots of Stora Karlsö in present and historical times. See Supplemental experimental procedures for a list of all photographers that have kindly contributed to this project. In addition, Aron Hejdström, Rolf Jacobson, Gotlands Museum and Vänersborgs Museum provided photographical material and contacts. Martina Kadin contributed to the photo documentation in years 2007–2012. Fieldwork in 2006–2015 was fi nanced by WWF Sweden. Henrik Österblom and three referees provided useful comments on the manuscript.

Inter-hemispheric remapping between arm proprioception and vision of the hand is disrupted by single pulse TMS on the left parietal cortex.
Parietal cortical areas are involved in sensori-motor transformations for their respective contralateral hemifield/body. When arms of the subjects are crossed while their gaze is fixed straight ahead, vision of the hand is processed by the hemisphere ipsilateral to the arm position and proprioception of the arm by the contralateral hemisphere. It induces interhemispheric transfer and remapping....

متن کاملA new perceptual paradigm to investigate the visual remapping of others’ tactile sensations onto one’s own body shows “mirror touch” for the hands
The last two decades have seen a multitude of publications showing the activation of an observer's somatosensory cortical system during the observation of touch on another person. Behavioral demonstrations of "mirror touch," however, have been slow in coming forward, and have so far primarily been shown as "visual remapping of touch" on the face. The present study uses a new paradigm to investi...
متن کاملReversal of phantom pain and hand‐to‐face remapping after brachial plexus avulsion
Following left brachial plexus avulsion, a 20-year-old man had phantom limb pain and remapping of sensation from his paralyzed hand onto his face. Mirror therapy (15 min daily, 5 days/week) led immediately to good movement of the phantom limb with decreased pain. Within 2 weeks following nerve graft surgery, remapping of hand sensation onto the face disappeared along with resolution of phantom ...
متن کاملReassessing cortical reorganization in the primary sensorimotor cortex following arm amputation
The role of cortical activity in generating and abolishing chronic pain is increasingly emphasized in the clinical community. Perhaps the most striking example of this is the maladaptive plasticity theory, according to which phantom pain arises from remapping of cortically neighbouring representations (lower face) into the territory of the missing hand following amputation. This theory has been...
